Where can I get an on-line associates degree for healthcare?

I recently took on a vocational program to become a surgical technologist and when I start working I'm going to have little or no time to go back to the university. So I'm going to opt for studying online. I've looked all over and only found associates degrees in health administration which is not what I want to do. I'm becoming a surgical tech to decide what branch of medicine or nursing I want to work in. But so far everything is about administration and the RN programs that are offered require an RN certification and an associates degree. I feel like I'm stuck! I left the university with only two semesters under my belt so I'm still technically a freshman. I need an associates degree and online college doesn't look that varied. Has anyone found an online associates degree program relating to healthcare?

Excelsior College in Albany, NY has an AAS degree program in nursing

leading to a RN. It is done through self-study, computerized testing, and weekend clinicals. It is mostly an LPN to RN program, but they allow other healthcare providers to enroll also. They used to allow surgical techs in but I'm not sure if that's the case anymore. Their website is www.excelsior.edu

Try University of Phoenix Online or DeVry. I just recently graduated from UofP with in associates in Health Administration (they also have bachelor degree programs in health), but I transferred to DeVry and I am pursuing a bachelors in Technical Management with a concentration in Health Service Management (they also have other health care programs). The only reason I transferred is because DeVry is more well known amongst employers and their program is a little more accelerated than UofP's. Unfortunately health care degrees are limited online because anything a little more health care involved may require you to sit in an actual classroom. Good example, I really want to be an RN and this is my long way of getting there until I can actually sit in a classroom environment. So check out those two sites and you may be able to find something that is not geared around health administration.

If you can go ground! Community college or State University! It is a quarter of the price and you learn more. Online schools you learn to write papers, and that is it.

That all depends on the employer - just like people, a corporation or agency will have certain bias towards one side or the other. I have a Masters in Criminal Justice (ONLINE) and I have been doing quite well. Prior to that I obtained a BS in Business (ONLINE) and that got me some nice job offers. The main thing to focus on is on how much you'll pay for school, the school's reputation (UOP is a respected online school BTW), is it regionally accredited (VERY IMPORTANT - UOP is), are you disciplined enough to take online courses vs campus based ones? and more... Employers take most degrees seriously as long as it is from an accredited and reputable school. You won't have to worry too much as your diploma will not mention "online" "distance education" or any derivative of that.

As long as the college or university is regionally accredited any degree you earn should be recognized by any potential employer or other academic institution the same as any degree earned on campus. In fact many colleges do not differentiate between a degree earned on campus or online. That having been said, not all online colleges are viewed the same just as not all campus programs are viewed the same. I am a military spouse stationed overseas with my family and would love to continue my education. But Its soo harrd to find an online ADN program, but i know they exist I just dont know which are legit. of course the clinicals are hard to arrange but i heard they could possibly be worked out with a nearby medical facility or something along those lines. I went to "All Nursing schools" website and it's a good site that really helps people understand everything about nursing career. However, in the Q&A portion, it gives the answer that "most" online nursing schools offer programs that can make u a Registered Nurse online. This could only be either associate's degree or 4-year Bachelor's degree program. Surprisingly, Most/All of the online universities that site is promoting dont have these two programs I was looking for. They only have programs for already Registered Nurses or LPN's who want to advance in their education. Help, pls! cause i really want to take up nursing. Go to a real college with a real campus. You'll save a ton of money and earn a degree that employers won't laugh at. The totally-online colleges will put you in massive debt for a worthless degree. Besides, nursing requires a clinical (hands-on/internship) element, and I've read about online nursing students being stuck trying to arrange for their own clinicals-- and unable to.

You local community college is going to be the least expensive option. If your local CC doesn't teach online, one in your own state probably does. Cost can range anywhere from a couple thousand dollars to 10s of thousands. You have more options than those "as seen on TV" colleges - there's a reason they can afford to advertise on TV. Should I get my associate degree or stay with the bachelors program?

I am currently in a online school for my bachelors degree. I have about 55 credits and was told you only need 60 credits for an associate degree. I wanted to know is there a way for me to get my associates and still continue with my bachelors program ? The bachelors program is 180 credits close to two years .The college that I am attending does not have an associate program. I am studying in human resource and trying to move up in my career. Any suggestions would be great .

Many bachelor's programs will take the credits used for the associate's program as prerequisites for a bachelor's degree. Technically, a bachelor's is 'higher' than an associates, anyway.

Check with a local junior college to see if the credits you have can be transferred to complete an associates degree. Of course you may have to take some classes with them to fill their requirements. Meantime you can continue with your online bachelors program.

Right now I'm just in the DEP program for the marines. I ship out the basic in february. I know that once I'm on active duty, I wont have enough to get a bachelors degree but was wondering if anyone knows any accredited online schools for associates degree in pre-medicine that would help me become a doctor when i am done with my 4 year service commitment. Are there any associate degree programs online that will help me prepare and also look good on transcript for when i apply for med school. Fyi i've put a lot of thought into this so yes I know what I'm getting into. I am planning on going to school to get a bachelors before I apply to med school also. Could anyone recommend anything? I prefer if it was an associate of science not an associate of the arts because I hear that associates of art aren't as good for med school. Would an associate degree help quicken the time of my bachelors degree? Sorry for the grammar in a rush and at the library.

If you eventually want to go to medical school, your major doesn't matter. But there are some required courses that all med schools require, and these classes include: General Biology plus lab General Chemistry plus lab General Organic Chemistry plus lab & General Physics plus lab Make sure when you sign up for these, that they are in fact the pre-med version (as I know several community colleges offer versions like "applied physics" and such that don't meet the requirements). It has to be general physics 101 with it's lab. I was thinking about going to medical school and was a bachelor of arts and needed to get all these classes. That's how I knew this. But I decided it would take too much time so I went to law school instead as they don't have any particular course prerequisites.

Who has been advising you on a path for Medical School? Pre-med associates degree?? As a matter of fact there is no such thing as a formal "Pre-Med" Degree! See the link below for medical school entrance requirements. I never heard of an AA/S pre-med degree. There are all kinds of degree finishing programs. If this is your direction why in the world would you enlist in the Marines? The medics are Navy Corpsman! You told the Marine Recruiter your plans? I would have loved to hear the story the Marine Recruiter told you. If medical school is truly your goal, you may want to rethink the Marines (it's a fine branch of the Military). If anything, you should consider the Navy or even the Army. Just so you know, you can cancel your contract with the Marines anytime before you take your final oath and ship off to boot camp! This is generally true for any branch of the Military! You need to check out the Army's or Navy's PA (Physician's Assistant) Programs!

Be very, very careful about taking degrees from on-line institutions. Even if they are accredited the fact of the matter is that such degrees are not in general viewed with the same respect as degrees from "real" universities. (I'd make an exception for Open University in Britain). If you can't put in classroom hours yourself, consider trying to gain admission to a traditional university which has a strong distance education component and take your degree that way.

I'm thinking one of the online programs at Harvard University would be up there as "the best". UMass has programs wholly online that are considered pretty good by most people. Boston U. Florida State.... The colleges which have the best name in traditional studies also have the best name in online education . There are so many options out there now that your question is like asking "what car should I buy" without telling us any more information. Let me emphasize this point - and you need only learn one thing today and this is the thing... There are different levels of accreditation. Regional accreditation is the highest. Regionally accredited schools usually will only take transfer credit from other regionally accredited schools. BUT they aren't required to transfer any credit at all. Anyone who offers you a guarantee that you can transfer credit (except for the school that is going to accept the credit) lies. It's that simple. There are times when credit from the same school won't transfer across departments - for example if you change majors. There are no guarantees!!! ever!!! This is not my opinion - it is a fact. Colleges are never required to take transfer credit - ever!!! I don't know why that is so difficult for some people, but you my friend, now know the truth. Another "truth" -- it is an absolute, provable fact that it doesn't matter whether your degree was online or traditional. It only matters where you got it. They don't say "Bachelor of Arts ONLINE" on them. If you get your degree at University of Florida, nobody will ask if it was traditional or online or both. It's very likely that, these days, it was both (since every college worth 2-cent now has online classes). People don't disregard UoP because they have online classes, they disregard it because their own commercials say "we're way easy and a short cut" -- I understand they aren't easy but that's what their commercial says. Want an experiment to prove whether online vs traditional is the decider? Try this using Harvard U and U. Phoenix. You have an applicant for a job. Everything is equal except that one has a degree from Harvard U and the other from UoP. The Harvard was online, the UoP was traditional in a classroom. Are you hiring the Harvard grad? Yep, so is almost everyone else. It's about the school - not about the delivery method... and now you know one more "fact" with which to make a decision.

Please be very wary of those 'online schools' as employers don't generally find them to be reputable places of learning. That includes stratford career institute and penn foster. I'd gone to www.ripoffreport.com where consumers can post about services that there were less than pleased with, and I actually think that I recall reading about va college online. There really aren't supposed to be too many jobs in medical billing though not sure about coding only that one must be a certified coder (by passing certification exam) and may even need at least one year of working to get coding job. Do not go to waste a lot of money on medical billing and coding degrees before to know if you could have a job out there with your degree and how much you could earn.. do your research. My advise will be to contact the medical association of billers and ask. I know they certify medical billers. For coding, American Academy of Professional Coders or American Health Information Management Association are the best place to ask. Also, visit the medical billing coding magazine BC Advantage and ask your question in their forum..I myself already took a great medical billing course online( medicalbillingcourse.com) but it's most likely a comprehensive program for those interested in a career in Medical Billing Business Ownership. If you have a degree - or any extra qualification - then you'll already be in front of of the bunch when it comes to looking for careers. My mate has a degree and he wasn't certain what direction to go with it, but he found some excellent guidance on the resource in the resource box below which guided him to decide that he wanted to be a lab assistant. Call admissions at a local accredited college and ask..............there are so many on line and they are mostly scams..........your resume would not carry much weight with and on line program if it came across my desk......I don't want to hurt your feelings but an Associate won't get you anywhere.........you need the 4 year. Sorry.............consider this...........before you get up to you @ss in student loans. Warning! Jobs in the field of Law are drying up FAST!! This is not a good field to invest time and/or money into. This is a SHRINKING vocational field. Many reasons. Many people today think they can do their own legal work, thanks to the Internet. We simply have WAY TOO MANY Legal Professionals - we have an absolute GLUT!!
